Camera Settings Checklist
Double-Check these Before You Shoot
- ISO – Know your camera’s native ISO (the baseline setting designed for the best image quality).
- F-Stop (Aperture) – Set for exposure and depth of field.
- Shutter Speed – Generally set to double your frame rate (e.g. 1/50 for 24fps).
- Frame Rate – Confirm (e.g. 24fps for most narrative projects).
- Media Card – Format in-camera before shooting.
- Sound Recording – Make sure it’s turned on (unless recording separately).
- Resolution – Choose HD, 4K, UHD, etc. (e.g. 1080p, 2160p).
- White Balance – Set manually to match your lighting.
- Autofocus – Decide whether to use it (many filmmakers prefer manual focus).
- Media Format – Check if you’re recording in MP4, MOV, or proprietary camera formats. Research what’s best for your project.
- Bit Depth – Choose carefully—higher bit depth improves image quality but increases file size.
- Slow Motion – Turn on/off as needed (often requires a higher frame rate).
